Pinhão

Located in the "Heart of the Douro Region" is flanked by the rivers Douro and Pinhão, lying thereby on the route of Port Wine.

Due to its geographical situation, Pinhão became an important trading center, particularly for the transport of the Port Wine, Boats Rabelos first, then by wagons through the Douro Railway Line and finally into tanker trucks, which allowed a quick development in this locality, achieving the status of economic geographical center of the demarcated region of Port Wine.

On a heritage level this locality has one railway station decorated with eighteenth century tiles, the most beautiful of Portugal, 24 panels with wine motifs, documenting the work of the locals - "durienses". The Road Bridge over the Douro River designed by Heifel in the nineteenth century, the Metal Railway Bridge, the Roman Bridge over the Pinhão River, the Main Church, Cruises, Rabelo Boats, old Manor Houses, "Quintas" with visits on all-terrain vehicles and especially Douro landscapes that invite tourists to seasonal visits with special emphasis on harvests and the "lagaradas".

We must not forget the Douro river, always inviting for a boat trip spotting farms - "Quintas" - of well-known producing fortified wine houses, as well as the Douro Railway Line with emphasis on the Historical Steam Train.

On the gastronomic side, the highlights are the Portuguese stew - "Cozido à Portuguesa", the roasted lamb, conventuals sweets, "borrachão cake, fine wines, jams and honey.

Handicrafts are famous with miniatures of Rabelo Boat, typical tin, blankets, quilts, laces, embroidery, baskets, hats, pottery, ferries and wine barrels.
